CTO workshop a St Bart’s

VP were asked to deliver a CTO course suitable for AHP’s at St Bart’s Hospital, the largest Interventional Cardiology department in Europe.

St Bartholomews Hospital is the largest Interventional Cardiology department in Europe, completing over 100 CTO’s per year. VP were asked to deliver a course suitable for AHP’s so they can build their knowledge and team moral in order to drive their CTO team forward.

At the end of 2019, three of Barts AHP’s attended ACTOS. They gained a vast amount of insight into the treatment and management of CTO PCI over the 2 day course. They asked me if VP could support them to share their knowledge with the rest of their team. Thea (of VP Education) and I decided it would be a perfect opportunity to include this as part of a CTO introduction evening.

Each AHP delivered a 10-minute presentation on what they brought back from the conference; what they want to implement, what they learnt, how they want to develop their skills further. This was followed by an extremely informative and brilliant talk from Thea on the fundamentals of CTO. Dr Elliot Smith finished with an overview of where CTO’s were heading and the evidence behind why CTO PCI is paramount to his patients’ quality of life.

There has been nothing but positive feedback from the evening, with Dr Smith saying at the end of the night to his team,

‘VP isn’t like any other corporate company, they aren’t interested in money but more in the development of each individuals education… we are extremely lucky to have their help and support’

The training was well attended achieving 25-30 AHP’s, a few interventional registrars and another interventional cardiologist. Barts have asked for a second CTO training evening and the AHP’s who attended are devising new plans on how to move the service forward. All in all, a triumph by VP in Barts educational development.
