Driving forward the Bournemouth interventional fellows course

Our teaching and training division, VP|ED, collaborated with APEX to deliver an interactive PCI course.

Designed for cardiology trainees who have selected percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) as a subspecialty, this residential course was held in Bournemouth on 4th – 6th October 2019. VP|ED were the driving force behind all of the event’s creative content, including branding the event and presentations.

It was an immersive weekend of case-based sessions and simulation skill stations. This interactive approach allowed delegates to learn actively and experience real-life cases, as well as getting hands-on with a variety of devices used in complex intervention.

The areas covered include basic PCI principles, intracoronary imaging and coronary physiology, as well as managing complications, and general PCI skills.

The faculty featured three highly experienced interventionalists. Between them, Suneel Talwar, Peter O’Kane and Jehangir Din have a vast experience of complex and advanced PCI procedures, and have participated in more than 50 workshops that focus on radial access, laser atherectomy, rotational atherectomy and complex PCI.

26 delegates attended in total and there was a resounding response of positive feedback. This highlighted how informative and refreshing the course was, along with how actionable the content will be in day to day practice.

We are always delighted to be involved in this level of interventional training, providing us with the opportunity to share knowledge with interventional fellows and the next generation of cardiology specialists
